President's Message
Welcome to this Newsletter of the Rotary Club of Botany Randwick Inc. Our club has been serving the local and international community since 1948 and this year we will celebrate 75 years of service to our community, both local and international.
Rotary promotes the ideal of service through fellowship. Attending our meetings allows members to enjoy the fellowship of other club members, enrich their professional and personal knowledge, and meet other business leaders in their community.
As a Club we support a wide range of projects. As well as having a broad range of local and international community projects, we are particularly focused on the Rotary projects, Australian Rotary Health, Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) together with The Rotary Foundation.
We welcome everyone to come along to any of our meetings in 2023, to join in the fellowship and to learn more about what we do.
At this meeting we will present suggested amendments to our current By Laws to fall in line with the recent changes Rotary International have made. As part of this process, we will also look at the Club's structure, particularly the Board and Committees.
It is expected that we will vote on these changes at our AGM in late November. It is important and necessary as you will learn what may be available to you and areas of interest for the 2024/25 coming year. It is an opportunity to learn more about Rotary service and how your skills can help our club.
We will also have our member, Phil Wicks, give a short introduction to some important first-aid knowledge. He will run through the use of the EPI-Pen, defibrillator and a couple of basic points.
We will then have dinner in the Graphic Club’s dining room at 7.30 for fellowship and questions.
Members are reminded that Membership Fees for the period July to December 2023 are now overdue. Please contact Treasurer Richard if you have any queries.
At our last meeting on 13th September Omar and Oliver from Randwick Boys High School gave a presentation on their experiences at the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) Camp, held in mid-August at the Telford Camp, located in the Sydney National Park.
Both boys are friends, both in the school’s debating team and will be competing in a inter school competition this weekend in Brisbane and if successful may compete in a international competition later this year in USA.
Both spoke eloquently of the positive experiences they encountered through the various team and individual tasks they undertook. They both emphasised that the camp offered resilience training, lateral thinking or ‘thinking outside the square’ opportunities and the importance of cooperation with others.
Oliver’s parents attended, as did Omar’s family together with Arielle Simon, Randwick Boys High School Science Teacher and Councillor as guests of the club.
