President's Message
Welcome to this Newsletter of the Rotary Club of Botany Randwick Inc.  Our club has been serving the local and international community since 1948.  
 
Rotary promotes the ideal of service through fellowship. Attending our meetings allows members to enjoy the fellowship of other club members, enrich their professional and personal knowledge, and meet other business leaders in their community.
 
As a Club we support a wide range of projects. As well as having a broad range of local and international community projects, we are particularly focused on the Rotary projects, Australian Rotary Health, Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) and Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC) together with The Rotary Foundation.
 
We welcome everyone to come along to any of our meetings to join in the fellowship and to learn more about what we do.

Meeting 24 September 2025

Mark McPherson has agreed to give us a new member talk on his life history.  Mark will create some interesting stories - some true, some fabricated, and all embellished! 

Should be an interesting talk and will conclude with dinner in the Graphic Arts Club restaurant.
Our last meeting

Linda Price from The Fix It Sisters Shed was our guest speaker for this meeting.  Fix It Sisters works in partnership with community and individuals to inspire and mentor women of all ages to develop and build their creative and practical skills.  

 

 

Some of the work Fix it Sisters are currently working on includes:

  • Mentoring partnership programme for Year 6 students at Arncliffe Public School.  
  • Partnership project with NSW National Park and Wildlife Service to build burrows to provide shelter for penguins at Lion Island, Snapper Island and Eden as their natural habitat has been largely destroyed by bushfires over the years.
  • Partnership with Bayside Council Environment team to deliver workshops on how to build possum boxes, bee hotels, etc for local residents.
  • DIY home repairs & basic carpentry workshops such as use of power tools, DIY home projects for women and girls living in the Bayside LGA.

The AGM is coming up …

 
Our Annual General Meeting will be held as part of our normal meeting on 23 October.
 
At this meeting we will elect the President for 2027/28 and Officers and Directors of the Club for 2026/27.  At the AGM last year, Mark Daniels was elected President for 2026/27 and at this meeting we will elect the following:
  • President-elect for 2027/28
  • Officers - Secretary and Treasurer
  • Directors - Club Admin, Community, International, Youth and Relationships.  
All members are asked to consider nominating for these positions.  Training and support is available for each role. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask any current Board Members.
 

Step Out, Speak Out …

For your diary - the annual Step Out, Speak Out Walk will be held 22 November 2025, moving from High Cross Park at the top of Coogee Bay Road, Randwick at 7:30am and finishes about 9am following a BBQ at Coogee Beach.
 
This event is sponsored by Randwick City Council and Eastern Beaches Police and supported by Rotary District 9675.

Rotary and Bill Gates Foundation extend partnership

Rotary and the Gates Foundation are renewing their longstanding partnership to end polio, announcing a joint commitment of up to US$450 million to support the global polio eradication effort.  The Botany Randwick Rotary Club has been a long-term supporter of this Program. 

“While historic progress has been made toward defeating polio—90 percent of the world’s population is free from the wild poliovirus—we’re facing significant challenges from competing financial priorities to fragile health systems. Furthermore, the detection of polio in places like Papua New Guinea that were previously polio free demonstrates that polio anywhere is a threat everywhere,” said Rotary International PolioPlus Committee Chair Mike McGovern. “The extension of our fundraising partnership with the Gates Foundation allows us to reach children around the world with lifesaving vaccines, keeping every child and community safe from this preventable disease.”
