What an inspiring start to the Rotary year it has been. Every week I am seeing more energy, more ideas and, most importantly, more member involvement. As President, there is nothing more exciting than seeing our members actively engaged, contributing their talents, and helping shape the future of our club.
Our recent meeting with guest speakers Vi and Kim from Blue Dragon was a powerful reminder of why Rotary matters. Hearing Vi’s personal journey from living on the streets as a child to becoming a leader helping transform the lives of vulnerable young people was both humbling and inspiring. Their story demonstrated the life-changing impact that can occur when communities come together to support those in need. The presentation generated great discussion and highlighted how Rotary's support can create lasting change across generations.
It's also encouraging to see new opportunities emerging within our local community. Last week I met with Belinda McGarity, General Manager of the Crowne Plaza Sydney Airport, and it was clear that the hotel shares our desire to make a positive difference locally. Belinda expressed a genuine interest in becoming involved in community initiatives and exploring ways the hotel can work alongside Rotary. We look forward to continuing those conversations and identifying opportunities for partnership.
Another exciting development is that discussions will shortly commence with J J Cahill Memorial High School to explore ways we can work together on community fundraising initiatives. One of the ideas already floated is the use of the school's car park for community fundraising activities such as a Car Boot Sale or Community Car Market. These are the kinds of partnerships that bring people together, raise funds for great causes and increase Rotary's visibility within our community.
Membership growth remains one of our key priorities this year, and it is wonderful to see interest from prospective new members. Every new member brings fresh ideas, new networks and additional capacity for service. As we continue to grow, it is important that every member feels connected, involved and valued.
On a personal note, we are pleased to share the good news that Sara has now been discharged from hospital and is currently in rehabilitation. We are delighted that Sara is on the mend and wish continued strength and recovery in the weeks ahead. At the same time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Adam on the passing of their grandmother. Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam, Adam's mother, and the entire extended family during this difficult time.
The key message for our Rotary year is Vitality. Vitality means energy. It means enthusiasm. It means action. It is about creating a club where members want to attend, want to participate and want to invite others to join. It is about building strong community partnerships, supporting meaningful projects and ensuring Rotary remains relevant and vibrant for years to come.
